Answering your big questions

If you want to know about my SEO copywriting or web content strategy, my SEO writing style and philosophies, or you’d like to know more about hiring an SEO copywriter, the menu links above will steer you in the right direction.

This page covers a few of the questions that pop up from time to time. Such as…

Are you available for face to face meetings and briefings?

In the early days I used to take individual client meetings, but the problem was they just weren’t the most productive use of anyone’s time – especially when you factor in travel. These days I ask my clients to fill out a brief form (which I’ll provide) and we work via email. As an SEO copywriter it’s all about digital. So let’s use digital technology to our advantage and have a Skype chat.

But there are exceptions to the ‘no face to face meetings’ rule…

If you’re a design or advertising agency looking to build a working relationship, absolutely, we can schedule a meeting. But please bear in mind that although Healthy Words is based in Melbourne, I’m currently working remotely and I could be in Melbourne, Auckland or Asia at any given time.

Why don’t you have a blog?

Good question, glad you asked. I did have a blog once upon a time, but to be honest I really neglected it. Blogging’s a brilliant SEO content strategy for building brand awareness, engaging with your audience and giving them some link bait, and positioning yourself as a person of authority (and I know I should be actively doing this), but blogs need a lot of attention!

Between writing copy for Healthy Words clients and The Pond clients, developing digital products with 8Wire Digital, overseeing the development of Kimchi Creative, marketing for Shock Records, volunteering my time to Oxfam America and finishing off a masters degree, I just couldn’t give my blog the attention it deserved.

Plus I like being outdoors, so I decided to take some of that time back and invest it in fresh air and sunshine. For me, it was the only choice.

Can you recommend any good blogs?

Absolutely, there are some fantastic blogs out there. Copy Blogger, Men with Pens, Pro Blogger, Seth Godin’s Blog and Instigator Blog are a couple of copywriting, content marketing and business blogs that I’ve got some value from, I’m sure you will too.

It’s worth keeping an eye on Inbound as it develops, not to mention the thousands of links to blogs and websites you’ll discover at Alltop. Happy reading.

Do you ever write guest blogs for other websites?

No I don’t, I just don’t have time. It’s something I might consider doing in the future if the right opportunity presented itself and I felt that I had some real value to contribute. We’ll see.

How do you attract new business?

A lot of my existing clients are people who I’ve been working with for quite a long time and I’ve formed solid relationships with them over the months or years. I also pick up a lot of new business thanks to endorsements from past clients. I love word of mouth referrals, they’re the ultimate seal of approval in my books. I also pick up new clients in New Zealand working as a freelance SEO Specialist Writer at The Pond. They take care of all the boring admin stuff. It’s great.

I don’t feel the need to advertise or pay for Google Adwords clicks (I’m a sceptic) and although I always follow SEO best practice, I don’t have a blog so I’m not constantly creating the type of keyword rich content that Google loves (and my website rankings suffer as a consequence).

That’s why I largely rely on word of mouth. Fortunately, quality copy speaks for itself.

Why don’t you publish your rates?

This question is often followed by “does that mean you’re expensive?”. I’m definitely not the cheapest SEO copywriter out there but I’m certainly not the most expensive either. What I am, is a seasoned brand and product marketer and SEO copywriter who creates exceptional value – for you. That is, I write high quality, high value SEO copy (and offer positioning/value proposition advice where needed) at a very reasonable price. I write SEO copy and create web content that delivers an outstanding return on investment.

What’s 8Wire Digital?

I try to keep things interesting and I work on several different businesses and projects. It made sense to bring these projects together under one umbrella brand, so I created 8Wire Digital. The current 8Wire Digital portfolio includes pubgrubber, a solution to the common “find me a pub” request, and Goodfella eSeller, the online store selling Goodfella Razors. There are several other 8Wire Digital projects in the works as we speak. It’s an exciting time – watch this space.
